*UPDATE* This random post has gotten so much attention that I feel a need to elaborate on a couple of points:
1) When I wrote this, I knew that Peter had been previously married to Wendy Mesley, but did NOT know that he is currently married to Cynthia Dale, and
2) My comments on this point are meant to be humourous and not libelous in any way, nor do I wish to make light of extra-marital affairs (see point number 1). I have no knowledge whatsoever of any hanky panky between these two.
Apparently I am not the only one who has noticed their flirtatious dynamic. All in good fun I'm sure. Claire is such a sunshiny person (no pun intended)... it actually seems like everyone is giddy when she comes on the air. I decided not to delete the original post, even though it has bothered a couple of commenters... mostly because anyone taking the time to google those two deserves to know that there are others out there who also find their banter amusing. So here it is:
Has anyone else noticed that Peter Mansbridge blushes like a schoolgirl everytime he introduces Claire Martin, the new-ish weathergirl? Maybe he digs her 80-s style hair and wardrobe (which is really quite fascinating in its extensiveness... they still make clothes like this??). It probably reminds him of Wendy, back in the day...

This is too funny! My wife and I joke about it every night. He is SOOOO HOT for her! Even his bald head flushes red! We were joking with a saleswoman today and she said the same thing. Which resulted in performing a search on Google about it... and here we are.

I have been watching The National online in the UK for a couple years now, and yes its true! Peter does seem to have some kind of infatuation with Clare Martin. He seems to savour introducing her each time, with that big smile of anticipation of interacting and having a little joke with her - all quite flirty really! Astonishingly though, after watching Feb 13/08's broadcast, the intro was far more formal than usual. It made me wonder whether the bosses have told them both to behave like professionals (or at least Peter!) Couldn't help noticing how sad he looked after the forecast by just saying "thanks Clare", and then saying goodbye to the viewers. He looked so constrained and unnatural, as though he'd lost a part of himself. Would be nice to get an "inside scoop" on whats really going on between them! Anyhow, you Canadians have a Tim Horton's on me. Miss Canada BIGTIME. Been in UK for 8 years now and feeling wistful... Visiting T.O. in June for 2 weeks first time back!! Not long enough but better than nothing. TTFN.
LOL, I've been trying for years to convince my husband that Claire certainly has caught Peter's eye. I, too, would love to know the scoop. PS. my mother, however, is in total agreement with me.

I laughed out loud when I happened upon this. I have been telling my husband for some time now my thoughts as regards Peter and Claire. I love the way Claire blushes and giggles after Peter has 'had his way with her!!' :-)

I grew up in Edmonton and watched Claire report the weather for many years. I've never seen the likes of this behaviour from her...its quite amusing. Peter and Claire!
This blog is old but the story goes on. You should've seen Peter & Claire tonite (Jan 26, 09). He commented on her outfit and she was blushing like a school girl. LOL. They definitely have the hots for each other. I wonder what their current status is??? They should hook up & get it over with...
I just moved back to Canada and watched the National for the first time and notice this right away..I told my husband and said I am crazy. But I am not. Well I googled peter manbridge flirting with Claire martin and I found your blog...LOL. Excellent comments..well we are all great obsevers. Well last night Feb 2/2009...something was up...they were not the same. Claire had her eyes down when Peter introduced her. something happened.
The National just did a feature on people cashing in old Gold Jewellery for cash, and Peter introduced Claire as "Our own little piece of gold, Claire Martin, then he smiled and blushed. I have HDTV and you could see his pores open!

Peter Mansbridge, today (Mar 24th, 2009) calls Martin "a piece of gold". She gives him for his pains a world of sighs. Or perhaps it's the other way about?
Yes yes, you are not alone. There are many of us observant CBC people who have noticed how much Peter has taken a shine to Claire. And she doth reciprocate. 3 things to mention here.
#1. Claire's interesting wardrobe I believe is all custom made because she is almost a midget. Ever see her stand next to Natasha Ramsahi?
#2. Very interesting that they were both away for a week at the same last month. Perhaps a tryst?
#3. Tonight Peter finished with a story about a beaver in Stanley park, and I quote:"It's not often that you see a beaver settling down in the middle of a big city. Here's Claire Martin in Vancouver" She took it well and made it obvious that she got the joke. Those two are getting pretty frisky.
So Claire Martin was giving her weather forecast tonight on The National and she mentioned that somebody from Happy Valley-Goose Bay phoned her to let her know what the weather was like there. So 2 minutes later she was finishing her forecast, and they cut to Peter Mansbridge who says:
Peter: "Heheh..That's so nice that you let people call you...do you want to give out your phone number so that you can receive more calls like that?
Claire (blushing): "No! No....let's keep that between us, shall we?!

Ha! This is hilarious...for the hundredth time, I thought that Peter Mansbridge is crushing big time on Claire Martin so I googled it for fun...look at all of you clever like-minded ppl out there. Hello! Does anyone really know if they are dating...?

Well, last night l commented to my husband that Claire will be wearing a green shirt for Peeeeeteeeer this evening. It turns out the shirt was white with red polk a dots but it was funny that she compared her skirt to something to do with the weather. Of course Peeeeeeeeteeeeeer
mentioned it and made her blush and all.
Same story here. We've been watching CBC news and laughing ourselves silly over this shameless behavior for the longest while. Could we be the only ones? We googled and behold; the whole world has noticed. Really, never has there been so much tension since Henry VIII took fancy to Ann Boleyn. No good will come of this...
Wow. I'm so glad I googled this. My wife and I joke about this every night! Their exchanges are hilariously obvoius. Maybe they do it knowing that it will create a bit of a buzz...or maybe its just a matter of time!
Poor Claire Martin. It's getting to the point where I turn the channel just before she comes on so I can avoid Peter Mansbridge's disgusting advances. Why Cynthia Dale puts up with his displays every night is beyond me. And his poor children. They can see it, too, and must be so embarassed. Sooner or later, Claire may have a sexual harassment lawsuit against the CBC if Mansbridge isn't stopped.

Likewise, my wife and I thought we couldn't possibly be the only ones. It's shameless really. Tonight (Oct.7, 2009) on the heels of a story about Kiss's show in Oshawa, he asked her if she was a Kiss fan. She responded, yes and that underneath her "trousers" she was wearing thigh high rubber boots with (three inch) heels. Looking like a panting, chuckling dog, Peeeta could only offer up, "Really?"

Wow! I honestly thought I wouldn't find anything when I googled this. You guys are genius! I've been thinking this for some time now, but today I had the computer on while watching The National and it just occured to me to look it up.
Just a random note though, I also discovered that Peter Mansbridge was married to Wendy Mesley for 3 years... interesting, eh? I always see her, always see him, but now I'll see them in a different way.

Everyone here has left such funny remarks! My family and I also get a kick out of watching Peter and Claire flirting up storms. My mom always comments how Claire has really "perked herself up" as of late! And obviously Peter likes it!

Feb 17/2010. My husband and I obsess about this. We just compared Peter's smile with Claire to his smile with Wendy (his ex)... totally different. His head actually changes shape when he smiles for Claire
Personally, as the wife of a man who loved him for all he was before everyone else realized how wonderful he was.... I don't find this very appealing at all. Our sense of self, marriage, family and livelihood are now trying to recover from a devastating 2.5 year emotional/physical affair. It's not easy being a man in power and harder being the wife of a man in power.
You all laugh all you want. I KNOW there are REAL people in the background profoudly impacted by this. Including the perputrators.
I wish Peter and Clair both well. I profoundly hope they personally know themselves and pursue that person's well being and best interest. Anything short of that is cowardly and harmfull to yourself and those you matter to.
Peter Mansbridge has been married to Cynthia Dale for many years. It was rumoured that he left Wendy for Cynthia. I can't remember if she got diagnozed with breast cancer before or after the breakup but I do know there was bad blood between the two for a while. So while he can flirt all he wants with Claire out west, he still goes back to his home in Forest Hill in Toronto to be with Cynthia.
Hah I had such suspicions too and I also decided to google it and found this post .. haha

This is all too foolish. When I started watching the CBC news a friend said to me that Peter really likes Claire Martin. That is obvious. but why not? She is pretty and smart and likes to laugh. Who wouldn't like her. Do you think that if there were anything going on between them they would flaunt it on national TV? Get real!!!!! gossip mongers!!!!
